Outer Banks History

1983

Outer Banks was founded out of the vision of a few apparel savvy entrepreneurs who identified the need for quality knit shirts in the US imprinted sportswear market.

1995

Corporate headquarters moved to Leland, NC. The move to the new corporate office allowed us to expand the customer service area and upgrade our computer systems.

1996

Fabric Center in Lumberton, NC completed. This modern fabric production plant features a wide array of technologically advanced textile and dyeing equipment, which has enabled Outer Banks to significantly increase our production capacity and better service our customers' needs.

1997

Outer Banks launches women’s sport shirts into wholesale market.

1998

Outer Banks outerwear line is introduced.

1999

Outer Banks is acquired by Sara Lee Corporation and merged with the Hanes Printables division of Sara Lee Branded Apparel group.

2002

Revolutionary Build Your Own Coordinates™ Program developed

2004

Outer Banks Reserve™, a sophisticated new collection of coordinated sportswear, is launched.

2006

Hanesbrands Inc. a leading marketer of innerwear, outerwear and hosiery apparel completed its spin-off as an independant company from Sara Lee Corporation on September 6, 2006.
